Our student chapter elected best in the world

At an SEG´s award ceremony last night our SEG Student Chapter was named the best student chapter of 2019-2020 among more than 100 student chapters. 

Students and field teachers gathered at Geocentrum and went through technical and practical lessons including Covid19 hygiene concept prior to a SEG Fieldcamp activity at Lilla Edet (a quick-clay landslide site). The fieldcamp was organised jointly by SEG student chapters of Uppsala University and Freie University of Berlin.

During the SEG2020 annual meeting our student chapter was elected best in the worldAt an SEG´s award ceremony last night our SEG Student Chapter was named the best student chapter of 2019-2020 among more than 100 student chapters. SEG evaluates the activities performed over the year. The activities include several field camps and participation and organization of several geophysical conferences such as IGSC2019, hosting lectures and promoting the science.

The student chapter at the department of Earth Sciences consists of 4 officers and several students as members and the faculty advisor is Alireza Malehmir.

- It is a great honour for the Uppsala University SEG student chapter to obtain this recognition. We also were ranked as the most improved chapter in 2019. It will motivate us to continue working for active student participation in geophysics area, says Tatiana Pertuz, PhD student at the department and vice-president of the chapter.

Congratulations to all the students involved and those who took part this year in the SEG fieldcamp activities at the Lilla Edet quick-clay landslide site!
