Atmospheric Extremes in the Antarctic Marginal Ice Zone (2018-2020, prolongued to 2022)

Type: STINT Initiation Grant

What happens when a cyclone crosses the marginal ice zone in the Southern Ocean? Can we get large waves in this region? How does this affect ocean-ice-atmosphere fluxes and ice cover? Our goal in this project is to both answer the above research questions and foster new collaboration between Swedish and South African Universities, and in particular between Uppsala University, Stockholm University and the University of Cape Town.
