Within MPT, we study our planet from the core to the surface and analyse processes that occur from the size of individual crystals to the extent of entire plate-boundaries. We target for instance natural resources and hazards, magma transport, and mountain building. Our toolkit comprises classic approaches such as field work and petrography, as well as cutting-edge techniques. Some of our most exciting approaches include 3D analogue and numerical simulations, mineral-scale elemental analyses using the national microprobe facility, and high-temperature and pressure experiments of magmatic and metamorphic processes. Our extensive knowledge and varied expertise foster a holistic understanding of our complex and dynamic planet.
